GPS Position Tracking Devices

A position tracking device is the central element of any vehicle tracking solution. These devices are used to calculate a vehicle's location and movements and then send this data back to a central system where it can be viewed on the user's vehicle tracking application.

Allmost all vehicle tracking units that are used for modern tracking solutions use GPS (Global Positioning System) technology to provide an accurate location. GPS vehicle tracking devices have a GPS antenna that is located within the vehicle, which continually receives the transmissions that are sent out from the network of GPS satellites that are orbiting the Earth.

The GPS vehicle tracking unit uses the satellite signals to calculate its current location, speed and direction of travel. All of this data is then sent back to the user, normally via the GPRS data network, where it is made available to business applications or simply to be viewed with a GPS tracking application.
